Winter Weather: HVAC Heaters

Use these quick steps to prep your home for cold weather and keep your heating working at its best. If something is not right, the guides below can help you solve common issues fast.

Reminder: Replace your HVAC air filter every month to improve performance and lower energy costs.

📋PREPARATION CHECKLIST

  • Test your heater BEFORE the first cold night.

    • For GAS furnaces, confirm gas valve is turned on and the 🔥pilot or igniter works.

  • Set thermostat to HEAT and choose a temp between 68 - 72 °F.

  • Replace your HVAC filter every 4-6 weeks, more frequently if you have pets.

  • Keep the air vents clear. Items should be at least 3ft away from the return & supply vents.

  • Test carbon monoxide alarms and smoke detectors to be sure you are protected.

  • Replace 🔋batteries in thermostat, CO2 & smoke detectors as needed.
